The USA Modified Series started the season at Toledo Speedway with Jonathan leading the way for the first part of the race. Jonathan has been looking forward to getting back to Toledo Speedway, making the show and having a good finish. He did all three!
The USA Modified Series has some of the best modified drivers in the county competing throughout the season. Toledo Speedway can be a tough track and there are no small wrecks there. Jonathan qualified ninth; he finished 4th in his heat race; and he drew a one for his starting position!
Jonathan would start on the pole of the 50 lap main event and pull the star studded field around the high banks for the first 14 laps as the rest of the field battled for position behind him. Eventually Brian Nester, the fastest qualifier, was able to make his way to the front and challenge for the lead taking over the top spot on lap 15. A few laps later, Bud Perry and Tim Burkett would pull past Jonathan, leaving him running in fourth just past the half way mark. The first caution of the night came out when Burkett's engine exploded. On the restart, Jonathan tried to keep pace with Nester and Perry, but they pulled away leaving Jonathan to battle with Australian native, Greg Fullerton for third place. Fullerton dove under Jonathan coming out of turn two to eventually lock up the third spot and Jonathan would claim fourth at the checkered flag.
We were thrilled with the best finish we have ever had at Toledo and with the USA Modified Series. The opportunity to race up front and compete for the win in the USA Modified Series is huge for Jonathan. It was a great night and gives Jonathan some momentum going into the next event at Winchester Speedway in a few weeks. We are thankful for a great finish and a safe race.
